It’s popcorn time at Denton Pack 202.
We will be selling popcorn on Saturday, Oct. 5, outside the Modell’s store in Lake Success and at the Stop & Shop in New Hyde Park.
The popcorn sale is very important to scouting, helping to pay for patches, trips and other programming for Denton Pack 202, and other local scouting programs. More than 70% of the money raised goes to local scouting.
We will be at Modell’s from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and at Stop & Shop from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Please stop by to support your scouts.
It’s not too late to join Denton Pack 202.
Our first Pack Night of the year starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Denton Large APR.
Our theme Friday night will be “cooperation.” We’re making den flags, building cooperation skills and and collecting for The INN in Hempstead.
Newcomers are welcome. Stop by to see what we’re all about.
It’s fall recruitment season, so we’re publishing here our updated Denton Pack 202 recruitment flyer.

Denton Pack 202 Schedule 09-03-13
Congrats, Pack 202, on a fantastic campout and move-up ceremony at Sands Point. We had a great turnout, some tasty food, an impressive campfire, and an overall great night.
Special thanks to all the parents who brought food, to the chefs who manned the grills, and to everyone who made sure we had what we needed.
We’ve uploaded the first set of photos. If you’ve got others, send them to Kevin for posting.
The last parent-committee meeting of the year is 7:30 p.m. Monday at Denton. Leaders should attend. Parents are encouraged to attend.
We will be discussing the campout and move-up at Sands Point on June 8-9. This is a fun event that takes a lot of coordination and cooperation. We will be asking for assistance with food, cooking and activities.
- Camp card money is past due. If you have not turned in your $25, please get it to your den leader before (or at) Monday’s meeting.
- Early registration closes on June 8 (the day of our campout). The discounted price goes up on June 9. Please get your check and updated contact information to Danny Kim.
- If you have any outstanding receipts for den or pack expenses, please get them (and your check request form) to Kym Insana by (or at) Monday’s meeting. We want to settle our accounts by the end of the school year.
Thanks to everyone who made it out to the recruitment pack night last week.
It was a fun night, and everyone seemed to have a good time with the indoor camp fire and Scout-made ice cream in-a-bag. A delicious treat, for sure. (See more photos here.)
We also welcomed five new Scouts. Make sure you say hello to Mohammad, Danny, Ray, Ethan and Timothy when you see them.
Remember that early registration for next year continues through June 8. Be sure to sign up with Danny Kim to take advantage of the discounted rate. Invite your friends, and help us grow.
Some important dates:
- Our next parent-committee meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20.
- Our campout and move-up will be at Sands Point on June 8-9. More details to come after the May 20 parent-committee meeting.
- Camp card fundraiser money is now due. Please coordinate with your den leader, if you haven’t already.
Attention, parents. Denton Pack 202 is having our annual recruitment event on Friday May 3 during our monthly Pack Night at the Denton APR.
We’re looking for boys who are interesting in building and racing pinewood derby cars, participating in fun outdoor activities, going on interesting field trips and campouts, doing good deeds, and otherwise being a good scout.
If your son will be in the first through fifth grade in September, join us from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Denton. We’ve got a great evening planned as we prepare for our annual campout. And all boys will be invited to make a delicious camp-friendly treat.
Bring your checkbook. We have a special registration bonus for new scouts.
Use the Join Us link above for more information.
There are several Cub Scout events this Sunday at Christopher Morley Park.
First, the Shelter Rock District is sponsoring a combination turkey drive, Thanksgiving fixins’ drive and baby/dignity items for Sandy relief drive, from 11-3 p.m. They have asked that we separate the fixins’ from the general relief donations so that the food items can be distributed to Island Harvest immediately. For this, Island Harvest prefers frozen turkeys, if possible, and no “fresh” stuff that will go bad before they’re delivered. For the baby/dignity items, the list includes baby food, diapers, soap, disposable razors, feminine products, toothpaste/brushes, combs, etc.
ALSO at the park on Sunday is Tiger Mania, a great event for Tiger scouts and their families. The event (11-3) features crafts, games and other activities, along with a camp fire and scavenger hunt. This does not need to be a den trip, but is open to all Tigers from the Shelter Rock district. There’s a small fee.
ALSO on Sunday is the Annual Leaf Raking at the park. The event is 11-4, but participants can come and go as they please. Bring your own rakes, brooms, work gloves, bags. All youth must be accompanied by an adult.
If you can participate in any of these events, please do. And have a safe and happy weekend.
Juleigh sent out the following email last night. Please help, if you can.
